Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:
August 26--1:20 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Rosedale resident. 4:46 p.m. A Deep River resident reported having no water; Wahkiakum PUD was notified. 5:36 p.m. A caller reported someone was driving erratically in a white pickup; an officer stopped the vehicle to check the driver.
August 27--8:11 a.m. A River Street business reported being tagged with graffiti. 11:13 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported an attempted theft of a horse. 11:40 p.m. Puget Island firemen responded to a brush fire along West Birnie Slough Road.
August 28--7:22 a.m. A caller reported being bitten by a dog while walking on Foster Road, and three pit bull type of dogs had given chase; an officer investigated and made a referral to the Humane Society of Cowlitz County. 9:41 a.m. A caller reported a theft of a Nissan outboard motor at the Elochoman Slough Marina. 11:47 a.m. A caller reported someone had broken into a pop machine on Main Street and stolen money. 12:45 p.m. A caller reported a mother-daughter domestic assault at a Puget Island residence. 3:19 p.m. A motorist reported a fallen tree was blocking one lane of SR 4 near Grays River; the state patrol was notified. 8:46 p.m. A motorist reported colliding with a black cow on SR 4 near Alger Creek the previous day; he had stopped to look for the animal but couldn't see anything, and today he had learned someone had taken care of an injured animal; the driver was told he would have to file an accident report.
August 29--8:29 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Puget Island residence to aid a woman who had fainted. 9:43 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to Wahkiakum High School to aid a person who had passed out. 11:33 a.m. A caller reported someone had spray painted graffiti on a drop box and trailer in Rosedale. 12:16 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Cathlamet address to aid a woman with chest pain.
August 30--10:24 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Puget Island residence to aid a woman who had fallen. 2:23 p.m. A caller reported someone had approximately 20 marijuana plants at an Elochoman Valley residence. 7:40 p.m. Corrections officers reported a jail inmate on work release had tried not to return to jail when his work was finished. 8:36 p.m. A motorist reported a sheen of oil had appeared on the surface of Birnie Slough when he weighed anchor; officials concluded the anchor had pierced a barrel on the bottom of the slough; agencies were notified. 9:09 p.m. A driver was arrested after failing field sobriety tests at a Rosedale traffic stop. 11:12 p.m. Elochoman Valley fire fighters responded to an outdoor burn.
August 31--12:11 a.m. A Westend resident reported neighbors were having a loud party; an officer responded and found no sign of the party. 5:54 a.m. Crew of the ferry Wahkiakum reported finding a drifting kayak with no one aboard; the Coast Guard was notified.
September 1--11:07 a.m. A caller reported a possible illegal burn; an officer investigated and found the smoke was coming from a legal barbecue pit. 2:33 p.m. A Risk Road resident reported loud explosions; an officer investigated and found that people were firing shotguns. 6:19 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported people shooting outside the no shooting zone were firing close to a residence; a deputy responded to investigate; and a land owner complained the deputy trespassed. 7:32 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Cathlamet woman who had fallen and broken an arm. 8:11 p.m. A Rosedale resident complained about a loud party; a responding officer found no one making a disturbance.
September 2--9:20 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Little Island resident who was very ill.
