To The Eagle:
“Longmire” is a television series on the A&E channel which focuses on a Wyoming sheriff whose jurisdiction is the fictional county of Absaroka. Recently, one of the ongoing stories has revolved around the campaign race for the position of county sheriff. The two contestants for the position are Longmire, the sheriff, and Branch Connally, a deputy on the force.
Like “Longmire,” the current contestants for the position of Wahkiakum county sheriff are Mark Howie, the sheriff, and Mike Balch, a deputy on the force. Like “Longmire,” both contestants are men with good qualities. The current race is for the remaining year in the term of Jon Dearmore whose life was untimely ended last year. Mark Howie, Dearmore’s selection for undersheriff, was chosen by the county commissioners to serve as sheriff until an election could be held in 2013 to fill the remainder of Dearmore’s term. The position of Wahkiakum county sheriff will again be up for election in 2014 for a full term.
Between now and November 5, both men will be campaigning to convince voters why they are the better choice for sheriff. This is an important position within the county and voters need to listen to each candidate.
My vote will be for Sheriff Howie. Mark has both law enforcement and management/leadership skills that are vital to the growth and advancement of our Sheriff’s department. He has the necessary practical and academic background needed to guide and lead the department now and into the future.
“Mark” your ballot in November and we’ll share another similarity to the Longmire show. In last week’s episode, Sheriff Longmire was re-elected.
