National Night Out set for Tuesday at JA Wendt

The Wahkiakum County Sheriff's Department invites residents countywide to join their neighbors and friends for the National Night Out Against Crime celebration next Tuesday, 6-8 p.m. in the Multi-purpose room of the J. A. Wendt Elementary School, Cathlamet.

"You will be joining millions of people across America and the world to prevent crime in your neighborhoods," said Emergency Services Department Coordinator Beau Renfro.

Dinner will be provided to the first 100 attendees.

The Sheriff’s Office and their volunteer groups including fire department and emergency medical services will put on demonstrations.

Renfro said National Night Out is designed to:

--Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness,

--Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs,

--Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships,

--Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized, and

--Increase volunteerism within Wahkiakum County to help promote working together for a better community.
