Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
Sheriff Mark Howie took time on July 24 to meet some local kids as part of St. James Family Center's Youth Adventure Program. The kids toured the courtroom, jail and 9-1-1 center where they met Corrections/Communication Officers Vern Barton and Aric Cothren.
They checked out Officer Bill Tawater's police cruiser and took a ride in the Humvee with Beau Renfro, Coordinator of the Department of Emergency Management. They met Officer Gary Howell from the K-9 unit and Dakota the Drug Dog. They received a Junior Deputy badge and a bag full of goodies.
Kids and Cops was a chance for kids in the community to spend time and build positive relationships with officers from the Wahkiakum Sheriff’s Department.
