Sheriff's Report - July 25, 2013

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

July 15—9:41 a.m. A caller reported that he had found a wheelchair in his back yard that didn’t belong to him. 9:53 a.m. A caller reported a large bag of garbage in the middle of SR4 near Nassa Point. A deputy removed it. 12:07 p.m. A caller reported the theft of a donation jar containing approximately $15. 9:07 p.m. A caller reported that a stray brown/black Labrador retriever-type dog was hanging around the caller’s Little Island residence.

July 16—8:06 a.m. A caller reported that cows were loose on West SR4. The animals’ owner was contacted. 11:07 a.m. A caller reported that the kitchen and a storage area at Rosburg Hall had been vandalized the previous night. 2:38 p.m. A caller reported finding a stray white and black female terrier in Deep River. 4:08 p.m. A caller reported that their dog had been injured in a fight with neighboring dogs. A deputy contacted the dogs’ owners.

July 17—Pacific County authorities requested assistance with locating a subject.

July 18—12:27 a.m. A caller reported noises in the neighborhood were making her dogs bark and that the noises had been occurring repeatedly at night during the past week. 8:16 a.m. A caller reported that a vessel had spilled approximately two gallons of diesel into the river next to the caller’s workplace and then left the area. The caller said they were attempting to clean up the spill. State authorities were notified. 5:05 p.m. A caller reported the theft of a ring, which they had located at a Longview pawn shop. A deputy took a report. 7:06 p.m. A caller reported receiving inappropriate cell phone messages. 10:13 p.m. A caller reported seeing a blinking bright light, possibly from a BPA tower.

July 19—1:32 p.m. A caller reported seeing a calf that was possibly in distress. 3:36 p.m. A caller reported being threatened by a squatter on the caller’s property. 6:22 p.m. A caller reported a possible fire hazard. The District 4 fire chief was notified. 11:07 p.m. A caller reported that people at the marina were being loud.

July 20—12:44 a.m. A caller reported seeing a suspicious man sitting in front of a closed business. A deputy made contact and found that the man was waiting for a ride. 7:39 a.m. A caller reported that a family member had not returned after going for a ride the previous night. The family member returned home later in the day. 3:23 p.m. A caller reported that they had been bitten by a dog while out walking. 11:02 p.m. A caller reported that people were shooting off fireworks in a residential area. A deputy made contact. 11:07 p.m. A caller reported that two quads had driven up a driveway clearly marked “no trespassing.”

July 21—1:46 p.m. Deputies and a mental health professional responded to transport a man experiencing a mental health emergency to a hospital.

July 22—2:56 p.m. Cowlitz County authorities contacted the Sheriff’s office to say they had arrested a man at County Line Park and would be transporting him to the Wahkiakum County jail.
