Sheriff's Report - July 11

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

July 1—7:51 p.m. A caller reported that a neighbor’s dogs were barking. A deputy was advised.

July 2—6:55 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to treat a woman who had harmed herself. 9:30 a.m. A caller reported that a neighbor’s dogs were barking. 1:34 p.m. A caller reported seeing a possibly injured eagle along SR 4 near Mill Creek. The Department of Fish & Wildlife was notified. 4:14 p.m. District 4 firefighters extinguished a controlled burn that did not meet the criteria required by burn permits. 7:19 p.m. A caller reported constant barking by a neighbor’s dogs. An officer investigated and found that the dogs’ kennel was well-kept and constructed in a way to reduce noise. The officer recommended the kennel owners contact their neighbors and left a copy of the county ordinance concerning dog kennel operations. 9:17 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to treat a 38-year-old man having a diabetic emergency. 11:48 p.m. A caller reported fireworks in their neighborhood. The caller later called back to say they had spoken with their neighbors, who had apologized and said they would not fire off any more that night.

July 3—12:42 a.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to treat a woman with high blood pressure. 2:32 a.m. A corrections officer reported finding a foil-wrapped packet of a substance which appeared to be heroin in the backseat of a jail truck. 10:45 a.m. A caller reported that a Stihl brush cutter had been stolen from his residence the previous night. 7:11 p.m. A deputy and domestic violence victim advocate responded to a domestic disturbance. 9:59 p.m. A caller reported that someone had broken into his apartment while he was gone. 11:14 p.m. A caller reported fireworks in their neighborhood.

July 4—4:21 a.m. A caller reported that fireworks were causing her dogs to bark. 9:07 a.m. District 4 firefighters extinguished a brush fire about 50 square feet in size near Incline Lookout. The Department of Natural Resources was notified. 9:41 a.m. A caller reported finding a light tan female lab near the intersection of Beaver Creek Road and Elochoman Valley Road. 3:21 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to County Line Park to treat a 43-year-old woman with diabetic problems. 3:59 p.m. A caller reported seeing a motorcyclist riding at 60 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone. An officer made contact with the motorcyclist. 5:56 p.m. A caller reported that the fireworks set off by a neighbor were shaking her house and scaring her horses. 8:20 p.m. A caller reported that a person who had been evicted four days previously had yet to leave the rental unit. An officer made contact.

July 5—10:08 a.m. A caller requested a civil standby in order to obtain their belongings from a former residence. 12:13 p.m. A caller reported a possible burglary. An officer investigated and determined that the complaint was unfounded. 8:18 p.m. A caller reported suspicious activity. 8:43 p.m. Drug-related activity was reported. 9:08 p.m. A caller reported finding a young female yellow lab on Foster Road.

July 7—8:01 a.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to aid a 61-year-old woman with diabetic problems. 2:10 p.m. The deputy coroner responded to the residence of a hospice patient who had died. 3:54 p.m. A caller reported the theft of a generator valued at $700. A deputy investigated and recovered the item from another location. 4:14 p.m. A caller reported that a door was open at the grade school, but no one appeared to be in the area. A deputy investigated and found that a teacher was in the building.

July 8—7:44 a.m. A caller reported the theft of narcotic medication. 10:13 a.m. A caller reported seeing a suspicious person enter a residence. A deputy investigated and found that some items had been taken.
