Sheriff's Report - June 27, 2013

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

June 17—11:45 a.m. A caller reported vehicles speeding along Fern Hill Road. 2:22 p.m. A caller reported that a suspicious man had been speaking to children in the area. 2:28 p.m. One person was taken into custody after store employees caught a person shoplifting. 6:28 p.m. A caller reported hearing suspicious noises coming from a neighbor’s home. A deputy investigated and determined that the noises could possibly have been peacock calls.

June 18—8:01 a.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to aid a 62-year-old man with chest pain. 10:51 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a person with heart problems. 11:36 a.m. A caller reported that a fallen tree was blocking Deep River Road. The county road crew responded and cleared the road. 2:21 p.m. A caller reported that an anchored sailboat three miles upstream from Puget Island was out of gas. The Coast Guard was notified. 3:02 p.m. A caller reported trespassers. 3:50 p.m. A caller reported the violation of a protection order. 4:47 p.m. A caller reported that his home had been broken into. A deputy investigated and took photos.

June 19—8:27 a.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to aid a man who was feeling weak and was unable to walk. 9:53 a.m. The Coast Guard reported a disabled boat near the mouth of Steamboat Slough. A deputy responded and towed the boat to the Elochoman Slough Marina. 11:01 a.m. A caller reported the violation of a protection order. 11:21 a.m. Numerous calls came in about an out-of-fuel sailboat anchored upstream from Puget Island that was sounding its horn in distress. The Coast Guard was contacted, but had no helicopters in the area due to emergencies. A deputy responded and towed the boat. 4:40 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a subject. 5:33 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a 70-year-old woman who had passed out and hit her head after giving blood earlier in the day.

June 20—7:48 a.m. A caller reported finding a large white husky-type dog running around Main Street. 8:45 a.m. A caller reported a phone scam. 9:12 a.m. A caller reported a case of reckless endangerment. 11:36 a.m. A caller reported that a squatter was causing problems in their neighborhood. 3:28 p.m. A caller reported that someone had abandoned a car at the caller’s location three days previously. The vehicle’s owner was identified. 3:53 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a 63-year-old woman with heavy chest pain and heart problems. 7:30 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a 45-year-old woman who was choking. 9:09 p.m. A caller requested assistance in locating a woman who had made threats against herself. A deputy was notified. The subject returned home.

June 21—1:02 a.m. A caller reported suspicious activity at the home of a neighbor who was out of town. 1:15 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a 69-year-old woman who had fallen. 9:18 a.m. A caller reported a burglary at their residence. 11:38 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a 60-year-old man with chest pain and difficulty breathing. 2:36 p.m. A caller requested contact with a caseworker. Human Services was notified. 3:36 p.m. A caller reported that a 79-year-old kayaker who had flipped over 150 yards offshore near County Line Park was unable to re-enter the vessel due to the current. The subject was located by Cowlitz authorities. 4:46 p.m. A caller reported finding a set of keys on Second Street. 6:27 p.m. A caller reported that a neighbor’s dog had attacked the caller’s child two days previously. 7:39 p.m. A caller reported that they had accidentally unearthed a cable, possibly an underground power line, with a brush hog. The PUD checked the scene and determined that there had been no damage to any power infrastructure. 8:16 p.m. One juvenile was taken into custody after a traffic stop on Mattie Road. 9:06 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a subject who was camping for the night on a church’s property. 10:13 p.m. A caller reported harassment by neighbors. Deputies separated the parties, who had both been drinking.

June 22—8:14 a.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to aid a 65-year-old man who had been ill for several days and was suffering falls. 9:08 a.m. A caller reported that someone had cut down a tree on their property. A deputy made contact. 10:03 a.m. A caller reported finding a sick baby fawn. A Fish & Wildlife officer was notified. 2:51 p.m. A caller reported that a stray Jack Russell terrier-type dog had wandered to her house. 10:41 p.m. A caller requested a deputy drive by a building in the caller’s neighborhood where a suspicious group of people were loitering.

June 23—4:54 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a 78-year-old man with breathing problems. 6:48 a.m. A caller reported that a man was loading gravel into a pickup truck from a large pile located at the intersection of Mill Creek Road and SR 4. Cowlitz authorities were notified. 10:48 a.m. A caller reported an injured deer. State Patrol was notified. 3:50 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a 38-year-old man who had fallen off a roof. 7:12 p.m. A caller reported a disabled boat that had run out of fuel. The Ferry Wahkiakum towed the boat to the ferry landing. 8:08 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid an 87-year-old woman who had fallen.

June 24—12:07 a.m. A caller reported that her neighbors were playing music loudly enough that she could not sleep.
