Oliver Charles Bacon, 95, of Puget Island passed away at Hospice Care Center in Longview on June 19, 2013.
Oliver was born in Portland, OR on March 10, 1918 to Oliver and Esther (Hamilton) Bacon. He graduated from Bay City OR High School in 1935 and his family came to Cathlamet where he met and married Irene Olsen in 1939. They were married by his father who was an Assembly of God Pastor.
Oliver worked as a Building Inspector for several years prior to purchasing the Shell Service Station and Garage in 1947, which he owned for 20 years. He worked locally as a carpenter and was a utility man for the PUD for 11 years, retiring in 1980. He had a love of electronics his whole life.
He was a life member of the Longview Elks, where he and Irene were members of the RV Club, Wahkiakum Anchor Club and Starlighters Dance Club.
Oliver is survived by two sisters, Marjorie Brown and Evelyn (Bill) Brunkal, a brother Bob and (Virginia) Bacon, and several nieces and nephews. Irene preceded him in 2011 and his son Donald Bacon preceded him in 1963.
A visitation will be held Saturday, June 29, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Dowling Funeral Home, 45 Broadway St., Cathlamet. Oliver will be interred at Greenwood Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, with a memorial service to follow at River of Life Assembly of God Church in Cathlamet at 2 p.m.
