Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
Dianne C. Bates, 76 of Cathlamet, passed away on June 18, 2013 in Longview. She was born on March 21, 1937 in Los Angeles, CA to Fred and Margaret (Taylor) Cavanaugh.
Dianne grew up in Skamokawa attending school there before moving to Seattle. She worked for Industrial Bolt Supply for many years, living in the Seattle area for 50 years.
Several years ago she moved back to Wahkiakum County. She was a member of Skamokawa United Methodist Church and Cathlamet Widows Luncheon Group. She enjoyed the friendships formed there. Dianne was a talented seamstress, quilter and collector of vintage dishes.
She is survived by five children, Jim, Ron and Roger Wiest, Debi Bierman and Lori Madeo; five sisters, Patty Ohrberg, Elsie Freerks, Betty Edwards, Kay Jones and Jan Walsh and 11 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by her mother Margaret Taylor Berg and her brother Tom Cavanaugh.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 29 at 11 a.m. at Skamokawa United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions in Dianne’s name may be made to Skamokawa United Methodist Church, PO Box 205, Skamokawa, WA 98647 or Wahkiakum Historical Society, PO Box 541, Cathlamet, WA 98612.
