VANCOUVER – Nighttime drivers in Salmon Creek should brace themselves for another round of construction-related closures next week while crews continue building the new Northeast 139th Street interchange.
Southbound Interstate 205 will be closed at the Interstate 5 junction from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night, Sunday, June 30, through Tuesday, July 2.
Through traffic will be diverted onto I-5. Local traffic and drivers heading to Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center should exit I-5 at Northeast 179th Street (Exit 9) and follow a signed detour.
During the closure, contractor crews working with the Washington State Department of Transportation will install 12 more girders for the new interchange bridge in Salmon Creek.
On June 8, WSDOT closed both directions of I-5 for a full day while contractor Max J. Kuney Company installed girders over the interstate. The work was expected to take 54 hours to complete, but crews wrapped up ahead of schedule and reopened the interstate 29 hours earlier than anticipated.
The Northeast 139th Street interchange is the fourth and final stage of a $133 million partnership project between WSDOT and Clark County Public Works. Drivers can sign up online to receive project email updates or follow WSDOT on Twitter to stay in the loop as the project moves through construction.
