The John C. Thomas Middle School eighth grade girls track team went undefeated in league meets and won the district championship this year.
"They are a special group of girls," said Coach Paul Johns. "They all participated in events that emphasized their strengths. We usually had a girl placing in every event."
District champions for the eighth graders were Cheyenne Barton, 200m; Shona Heywood, 400m, and Mya Kirzy, 1600m. Barton, Heywood, Savannah Burdick and Makenzie Anderson won the 4x100 relay. In field events, Anderson won the pole vault, and Sydney Hansen won the discus.
"Other district champs to be noted are Michael Zurich, winning the 800m," Johns said, "and Parker Patching, Zach Brown, Nathan Dault and Cody Terpsma won the 4x100m relay."
