Lady Tigers, Ducks sweep Mules

The Wahkiakum Mule softball team travelled to Morton last Thursday to face Morton/White Pass (MWP) for a double header.

MWP won the first game 15-3 and the second 13-4.

In the first game, pitcher Tori Wegdahl struck out six Timberwolves. Rachel Patching started the fourth inning with a base hit. Shanna Haven’s bunt got her on base and moved Patching to second. Marissa Longtain got a base hit, and with the bases loaded, Sam Boyce hit a double, scoring two runs.

“Defensively, Sammi was a standout from behind the plate,” said Coach Cindy Fudge.

Dallas Gott was the starting pitcher for the Mules in game two. “Despite her best effort, the hitting of MWP was just too strong,” said Fudge.

Behind by nine in the third, the decision was made to return Wegdahl to the mound. Wegdahl allowed only four more runs and struck out five batters.

Haylee Budd had two doubles and was 2-4. Sam Boyce had two doubles, a triple and was 3-4. Wegdahl had a triple and three RBIs.

“Defensively, Morgan Elliott did a great job for us behind the plate, as did Sammi Boyce at shortstop,” said Fudge.

On Tuesday, the Mules faced Toutle Lake at home in a double header and lost both 20-0.

Tori Wegdahl pitched the first game. Sam Boyce went 2-2, hitting a single and a double.

In the second game, Baylee Olsen stepped up to the mound. Shanna Haven was 2-2 at bat, and Boyce went 1-1 and walked.

“Defensive standouts were Wegdahl at shortstop, Marissa Longtain at third and Boyce, catching,” Fudge said.

The Mules entertain North Beach on Friday, 3 p.m., for a doubleheader. District tournament play starts next week.
