Commissioners set meetings on junk car ordinance

The Board of Wahkiakum County Commissioners have announced they will hold two town hall meetings about possible new regulations for junked vehicles and related issues.

The meetings will be:

May 15, 6:30 p.m., Grays River Valley Center, Rosburg, and

May 21, 6:30 p.m., Wahkiakum County Courthouse, Cathlamet.

In the meetings, commissioners will take public testimony for the need to amend the county’s Solid Waste Ordinance to include a chapter regarding junk cars and/or nuisance personal property located on private property where such use infringes on the rights of adjacent property owners.

Commissioners considered a similar ordinance about 10 years ago but didn't adopt it because of widespread public opposition. This year, public comment to commissioners led the board to schedule the hearings to hear public input on the issue.
