Anniversary 75 coming soon

I’m finishing up this article as I sit in yet another hospital room with my husband. We ended up back in the emergency room on Saturday night and after many more tests, up and down blood pressure, and a few other issues, I think we are headed uphill once again. Hopefully he will be back home again in a day or two. Thanks everyone for your good thoughts, prayers, support and friendship. We will overcome.

Arlene Stefan is holding down the fort in the sewing room at the Grays River Valley Center every Tuesday at 10 a.m. It would be great if more folks were using the sewing machines while she is there to help. Do you have a project you need help with? Do you have a suggestion for a class that can be taught? Arlene is a wonderful teacher, seamstress, and quilter, does embroidery work, and is a fount of knowledge when it comes to anything to do with sewing. Give her a call with any comments, questions or suggestions for utilizing the sewing program to its full potential.

Coming up this Sunday, April 21, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. is one of the best chicken dinners you will ever eat, and the dessert alone is worth the price of the meal. This annual event is prepared, served and sponsored by the Rosburg Community Club. Treat yourself and your family to a wonderful dinner of baked chicken with all the trimmings.

Proceeds from the chicken dinner are used for maintenance of the hall and scholarships for our local students. Tickets for the meal are $10 for adults, $5 for kids 6-12 years and $2 for children under 6.

The annual Spring Tea and Luncheon sponsored by the Friendship Circle of the Grays River United Methodist Church will take place on May 5 and the theme will be “School Days.” Come to enjoy a wonderful luncheon, tea, entertainment and a raffle with some beautiful prizes.

The Grays River Valley Center’s next fundraising event will be a Bake/Book/Plant sale and Soup luncheon held on May 18. If you would like to donate some plants or baked goods to the sale, please call Penny Gregory at 465-2775.

Come join us for a free Friday night movie at the Grays River Valley Center, every week at 7 p.m. in the activity room. The first and fourth Friday evening movies are always family friendly shows. You can call 465-2310 for more information on the movies being shown and the scheduled movies for the month. Posters are up on local bulletin boards throughout the county and in Naselle. Concessions are also available.

The Johnson Park Advisory Board is busy organizing the Second Annual Community Potluck/Picnic to be held on the grounds at Johnson Park on July 21. We will be celebrating the 75th birthday of the old Rosburg School and hope to have a reunion of sorts for former students, faculty and families. Though it will not be a full-blown reunion, we would like to invite anyone who is willing to take on the task of contacting others who were former students and organizing the event. The board members would love to have the manpower to do all the work for such an event, but we are stretched pretty thin with all the hats each of us wears. We could use many more volunteers, so if you have a few extra hours, some good ideas, or are just looking to help out, give me or Penny Gregory a call. You would certainly be appreciated.

The advisory board will be holding a special meeting next Wednesday, April 24, at 12:30 p.m. at the Grays River Valley Center to discuss more details on the picnic and 75th year celebration of the school building. The community is invited to join us with ideas, volunteerism and most importantly-a willingness to make this an extra special event for everyone. Thanks in advance.

I have actually had some contact from out-of-state alumni who are interested in being here for the celebration. Let us know if you are willing to help out by taking on a task or two. The rewards are always worth the effort.

There will be some new things going on in your Grays River Valley Library/Community Computer Center. Stay tuned for an update in next week’s column.

The Rosburg Senior Lunch Bunch that meets at Rosburg Hall will enjoy their “Event” potluck on April 24. These meals are prepared and served by Pat Potter and her volunteer crew each week.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays senior lunches are also served at the same location, and are sponsored by CAP.
