Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
In partnership with Wahkiakum Community Network, Wahkiakum County Sheriff’s Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Wahkiakum County will participate in the free national prescription drug-take back day to be held April 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at two locations, the Cathlamet Pharmacy, 74 Main Street and Johnson Park, 30 Rosburg School Road in Rosburg.
This is a safe, free program for people to dispose of their unused prescription or over the counter medications instead of flushing it down the sink or toilet, or tossing it in the trash.
The program is anonymous; no requests for identification will be made.
In April 2012 there were 5,659 prescription drug take-back sites for safe and proper disposal available across the country. To date, the DEA and its state, local and tribal law enforcement and community partners have removed over 1.5 million pounds (774 tons) of unused medication from circulation.
For further information and to find out what is and is not acceptable for disposal contact Undersheriff Steve Marshall at 360-795-3242 or 360-465-2202, or call Lia Sealund at Wahkiakum Community Network, 360-795-8040.
