Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:
April 1— 11:20 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to treat an 83-year-old woman who had fallen. 12:27 p.m. A caller reported that a large chunk of metal was lying on SR4 between Bjornsgard and Miller Roads. 12:48 p.m. A caller reported recurring issues with a neighbor’s dogs. 2:24 p.m. A caller reported finding a weed eater along Columbia Street. 3:06 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that his chainsaw had been stolen sometime between February 15 and March 20.
April 2— 9:12 a.m. A caller reported that 10 cows had gotten out along Lassala Road. 9:21 a.m. A caller reported finding a substance suspected of being methamphetamine that had been left on a bus. 10:47 a.m. Campers were evicted from Hornstra’s Beach. 12:04 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to transport a 66-year-old man with low blood pressure and renal failure to a hospital. 2:04 p.m. Deputies responded to a report of an assault and shots being fired along the Fossil Creek mainline and arrested two people. 4:59 p.m. A caller reported that someone had written three unauthorized checks from her bank account. A deputy investigated. 6:44 p.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to treat a 72-year-old man with chest pain. 9:42 p.m. A caller reported that a freighter was headed downstream without any running lights. The caller was referred to the Coast Guard station in Astoria. 11:04 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to treat a 69-year-old female who had fallen and was dizzy.
April 3— 1:25 a.m. A caller reported that a juvenile had run away. 3:07 a.m. A caller reported a suspected burglary at the Rosburg Store after observing that the front door was open. 9:25 a.m. A caller reported the theft of copper pipes from underneath a residence. A deputy investigated. 11:58 a.m. A caller reported that a woman was outside their residence yelling about men with guns. A family member of the woman came to pick her up. 4:50 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to treat a 58-year-old man with breathing difficulties. 8:47 p.m. A caller reported that his son had been admitted to a hospital after being assaulted the previous night during a party at a local rock quarry. A 17-year-old female was also injured while trying to break up the fight. A deputy investigated. 9:14 p.m. A caller reported that a man dressed in black had been lying in a field near her residence but had taken off when her son spotted him. 9:16 p.m. A caller reported that a vehicle had broken down just past her residence and she was concerned about the vehicle occupants because they did not have a cell phone to call anyone. 9:41 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on children that had been left home alone.
April 4— 11:40 a.m. A caller reported that a stop sign was down along Salmon Creek Road. The county Public Works department was notified. 1:57 p.m. A caller reported that a house and barn had been burglarized earlier in the week. A chainsaw, pump, and other items were taken. A deputy investigated. 4:11 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a child that resides elsewhere. The request was communicated to the child’s local police department.
April 5— 5:17 a.m. A caller reported ongoing issues with a person knocking on their door. A deputy was notified. 7:43 a.m. A caller reported that a goat that did not belong to her was tethered in her yard. 11:44 a.m. A caller reported that a small tree was blocking the northbound lane of East Valley Road. The county road crew was notified. 7:00 p.m. A caller reported the theft of fishing gear worth an estimated $250 from a boat moored at Elochoman Slough Marina. 8:18 p.m. A caller reported an erratic driver was headed westbound on SR4 near County Line Park. State Patrol was advised.
April 6— 3:16 a.m. A caller reported that a neighbor had been playing loud music all night. A deputy was advised. 10:07 p.m. Deputies noticed two boys pushing a red ATV along a road. A deputy made contact with the youths’ parents, who were out of town, and found that the youths did not have permission to use the ATV. The deputy transported the boys to their home, and an older sibling picked up the ATV.
April 7— 1:53 a.m. State Patrol requested assistance at the intersection of SR4 and Germany Creek. A deputy responded. 9:29 a.m. A caller reported that a branch was blocking one lane of Ostervold Road. The county road crew was notified. 10:12 a.m. A caller requested a deputy standby for a civil matter. 3:16 p.m. Cowlitz County authorities requested assistance locating a driver that was headed westbound on SR4. A deputy was unable to locate the vehicle. 7:11 p.m. A single-car motor vehicle accident occurred at a local law office. There was no damage to the structure. The driver refused ambulance transport for minor injuries. 7:49 p.m. A caller reported that a horse was loose on Elochoman Valley Road. A deputy was unable to locate the animal. 8:08 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a teenager who had posted on a social networking site that she had harmed herself. A deputy checked on the teen. 10:33 p.m. A deputy reported that a minor slide was blocking the southbound lane of Elochoman Valley Road at Milepost 8.2. The county road department was notified.
April 8— 11:06 a.m. A student was reported for truancy on March 22.
