On Friday, the Mules softball team met Mossyrock at home for a double header. Mossyrock won the first game 16-6, but the second game was called in the fourth inning due to darkness.
Starting Mule pitcher Tori Wegdahl struggled to find her rhythm. After two innings, Dallas Gott came in to relieve her, and Wegdahl moved to shortstop.
“Dallas is a tremendously hard worker and really gives you her best efforts but even our best efforts couldn’t overcome Mossy’s strong bats,” said Coach Cindy Fudge.
Morgan Elliott hit two doubles, had two RBIs and went two for four for the Mules. Defensively, she was integral to two double plays.
“I’m proud of how she cheered her team on even when things got difficult. There’s always something to be said for a teammate in the trenches,” said Fudge.
Jem Dyer went two for four at the bat. Rachel Patching and Sam Boyce each had a single.
“Besides Morgan [Elliott]’s great defense, the other standouts were Marissa Longtain with a diving catch, our rock Haylee Budd at first, and our general on the field and behind the plate, Sami Boyce. The outfield did a great job of hustling and cover for each other.
“I always have tremendous thanks and appreciation for my bench. It’s easy to cheer when you’re in the game but it’s a mark of a great teammate and friend to cheer from the bench,” said Fudge, echoing an earlier statement.
Last week’s game against Naselle was cancelled due to rain.
