Sheriff's Report - March 28, 2013

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

March 18—12:24 p.m. The District 4 fire department responded to an equipment fire in the 100 Acres Forest. 3:23 p.m. Deputies served a search warrant on an Elochoman Valley residence after receiving a lead about a felon in possession of a firearm. The search yielded an illegally possessed firearm, stolen property, and illegal drugs including methamphetamine. 5:59 p.m. A caller reported that someone had violated a no-contact order. 6:13 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to treat a woman having breathing difficulties. 7:19 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to treat a woman having a seizure.

March 19— 12:55 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to treat an elderly woman who was very ill. 9:21 a.m. A caller reported that people were cutting down trees on state property. 12:48 p.m. A caller reported that someone had broken into their home. 2:27 p.m. A caller reported that a door was open on a vacant home. 3:45 p.m. A caller reported being assaulted by a family member. One person was taken into custody.

March 20—8:05 a.m. A Puget Island farmer reported that an animal had killed several sheep. WDFW was contacted. 9:00 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a 69-year-old male in cardiac arrest. 2:44 p.m. A caller reported a possible case of sexual abuse. A deputy investigated. 4:49 p.m. Deputies, the Cathlamet ambulance, and the Puget Island fire department responded to a two-car motor vehicle accident at the Birnie Slough bridge. 11:20 p.m. A caller reported that a family member with a heart condition had gone missing and did not have necessary medications. 11:25 p.m. A caller reported that their blind Brittany spaniel had gone missing along Elochoman Valley Road.

March 21—9:49 a.m. A caller reported a possible case of child abuse. 3:54 p.m. Deputies and the Grays River ambulance and fire department responded to the scene of a one-car motor vehicle accident along Oneida Road. One person was taken into custody for DUI. 4:26 p.m. A caller reported an erratic driver headed east along SR4 near County Line Park. The vehicle went into the ditch after crossing into Cowlitz County. 5:05 p.m. A caller reported that someone was trespassing in her home. One person was taken into custody. 10:03 p.m. A caller reported that they had taken an overdose of a prescription medication. Dispatch determined that the caller was in Cowlitz County and transferred the call to Cowlitz County authorities.

March 22—7:58 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to treat a 70-year-old female with chest pain. 9:43 a.m. A caller reported that a roaming dog had cornered her son against a car, causing him to miss the bus. The dog’s owner was contacted. 11:13 a.m. A deputy investigated the theft of a cell phone and students in possession of drugs at the high school, and took two people into custody. 2:07 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a 25-year-old man having a heart attack. The man was transported by LifeFlight to a Vancouver hospital, but did not survive. His obituary is found elsewhere in this issue. 7:57 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to the county jail to treat an inmate with abdominal pain.

March 24—3:27 p.m. Deputies executed a search warrant at a residence.

March 25—10:20 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on an elderly man after seeing the man’s dog running down Main Street. A deputy found the man in good health. 10:30 a.m. A caller reported the theft of auto parts. 1:38 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a 59-year-old woman experiencing stroke symptoms. 5:30 p.m. A caller reported a possible case of animal abuse. A deputy investigated. 6:12 p.m. A caller reported being harassed by a family member. A deputy investigated.
