Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
Wahkiakum High School students next week will conduct a drive fund to raise funds for Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland.
The students will sell wrist bands, Doernbecher Dolly logo heads, and root beer floats. They'll sponsor a dance with a court selected by school faculty, and hold a limited-seating spaghetti dinner that will feature a silent auction and a Mr. Wahkiakum Pageant. Middle and elementary school students will participate through a Penny War in which classes compete to see which can collect the most pennies.
The drive is part of Doernbecher's Kids Making Miracles Program, which encourages high school students to conduct fund raising activities. The school's Key Club and student body officers are coordinating the drive.
