Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
Safe@Home, a division of Elder Options, is offering free safety assessments for seniors in the Longview/Kelso area. The Home Safety evaluation is a free community service and will offer seniors recommendations to make their home or apartment safer.
Participants will receive materials regarding fall prevention, home safety and emergency preparedness. The goal of the program is to reduce the risk of falls and increase awareness.
Forty-five percent of household injuries occur in the bathroom and 20 percent of falls occur in the kitchen. Seniors have a higher risk for broken bones and hips that can lead to extended hospitalization, nursing home rehabilitation, expense, and the stress of being away from home. Fifty percent of broken hips in the elder population result in loss of life within the first year after injury.
Seniors 70 years and older or adults of any age with mobility or health concerns can call John or Amee at Safe@Home to schedule an appointment. Call 360-636-0700 or 360-636-1000 Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Elder Options is a member of the Better Business Bureau.
