Alfred E. "Al" Tover

 Alfred Edward Tover passed away February 21, 2013, surrounded by his family at the Hospice Care Center.

 He was born August 11, 1934, on Puget Island to Oscar and Dagmar Tover. He grew up in Cathlamet, working on the family farm. He participated in sports at Cathlamet High School and graduated in 1952.

 Al served four years in the Navy, stationed in San Diego. He loved the Philippines and trips to Hawaii while serving there. Al worked at the Weyerhaeuser sawmills for 25 years and had a strong work ethic.

 He married Carol Schlarb in May 1958. They had three children and later divorced.

 Al loved dancing, polka music and pinochle. He also enjoyed fishing, clam digging and televised sports. In later years, he enjoyed spending time with his friends at The Midway and Ol’ Time taverns.

 He is survived by a brother, Vern Tover; a sister, Amanda “Punky” Chambers, and her husband Larry; three children and their spouses, Kim and Bill Forney, Roger and Sonya Tover, and Greg Tover; six grandchildren, Rachel, Roger, Sierra, Wendy, Jordan and Jaden; and three great-grandchildren, Maranika, Teylor and Carson.

 A service is planned for 11 a.m. Thursday (today) at Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park & Crematory.
