The Washington State Auditor’s Office released a report on the results of an independent accountability audit of Wahkiakum Cemetery District No. 2 on February 11. The auditors examined records from January 2010 through December 2011.
The objective of the audit was to evaluate the adequacy of the district’s internal controls to safeguard public resources and the district’s compliance with state law and its own policies. The review focused on areas representing the highest risk of misappropriation, misuse or noncompliance.
In the areas examined by the audit, the district’s internal controls were adequate to safeguard public assets. The district also complied with state laws and its own policies.
Wahkiakum County Cemetery District No. 2 provides maintenance and operation services for its cemetery located near Skamokawa. An elected, three-member Board of Directors governs the District. Property taxes pay for District operations. Annual revenue is approximately $5,000.
