Archive Center hosting viewing of Finland scenes

All are invited to enjoy tantalizing scenes of Finland by coming to watch “A Musical Journey” at noon on February 16. The film will be shown at the Appelo Archives Center, located at 1056 SR 4 in Naselle.

Along with scenes from Helsinki and the countryside, the visuals include works of painter Akseli Gallen-Kallela. The artist was stimulated by stories from the Kalevala, the epic poem of Finland.

A featured building is the Kerimäki Church, the world’s largest wooden church. It was built in 1848 and has a capacity of 3,500 people. Also shown is Suomenlinna, a fortress built on five islands to guard Helsinki.

The music is that of Jean Sibelius, the greatest of all Finnish composers. Sibelius was inspired by the Finnish landscape and also by the stories from the Kalevala.

There is no admission charge. The film runs 63 minutes and is rated for general audiences. Come early to enjoy soup, Finnish bread, and various pastries at the newly opened Archives Deli.
