Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
Just two days until February 9. On this special day we will be preparing the Valentine Diamond Dinner for our guests. There’s still time to get your tickets. Tickets are only $25 per dinner and the dinner starts at 6 p.m. We have three nice prizes for our raffle drawing. The Grand Prize is a basket containing champagne, candy, a diamond bracelet plus a few more goodies! You will receive one raffle ticket with your dinner ticket purchase and can buy more raffle tickets for $1 each at the dinner.
Evening entertainment will be provided by local talented pianist Kathleen Peterson, she will fill the Skamokawa Grange Hall with musical melodies as you enjoy your delicious dinner. Just before we draw the winning raffle tickets, you will be entertained by local songwriter Jerry Ledtke as he performs two of his original songs.
Dinner includes a filet mignon steak cooked on the BBQ to perfection, baked potato with all the fixings, a beautiful multi-lettuce salad, green beans, a fresh baked roll, dessert, a glass of wine or your choice of beverage.
If you would like to attend the Valentine Diamond Dinner but prefer a vegetarian meal we also serve portobello mushrooms cooked on the barbecue. At the dinner just let your waitress know you would like the portobello mushrooms instead of the filet mignon steak and you will be served a wonderful vegetarian dinner.
The project this week for Kay Chamberlain, Maureen Zacker-Bockius, Susan Rawls and myself has been to transform the Skamokawa Grange Hall into a dining room. After many hours of work we have bright Valentine decorations everywhere and we have created a very festive dining room for our dinner. It looks great!
To set-up the dining area to serve 100 guests we needed 15 heavy tables moved into the Grange Hall. This was accomplished by Jason Rainey, Bill Chamberlain and Mike Backman, thanks guys!
Purchase your dinner tickets at the Cathlamet Bank of the Pacific, Rosburg Store or call Becky at 795-3434 for out of town purchases. Don’t miss this fun evening, we have a few tickets left to sell, and we would love to have you attend! These tickets would make a nice surprise gift for your mom and dad, too. All proceeds from Wahkiakum County Fair Board fundraising events go directly toward supporting and maintaining your 2013 Wahkiakum County Fair.
My daughter canned applesauce last week-end. Of course my thoughts were, “Valle, put your best looking jar aside and save it for an exhibit at our Fair.” It’s easy for your exhibits to add up if you create them throughout the year. You can even exhibit items made in 2012 if they were made after the date of our 2012 Fair. Keep that in mind as the days and months go by and then when it’s Fair entry time you will have lots of items to display for our community to enjoy as they visit the Fairgrounds.
The fair office is open by appointment only. If you need to gain access to the fairgrounds contact Fair Manager Becky Ledtke @ 795-3480 and leave a message.
The next Wahkiakum County Fair Board meeting is February 13, 7 p.m., held at the PUD Building Meeting Room in Cathlamet. The public is always welcome to attend.
