Lady Mules edge Adna, Winlock

On Wednesday, the Lady Mules traveled to Adna to battle the Pirates in a nail biter.

“Both teams played with a lot of intensity…it was tied at half time and we came out in the third and were able to get a quick seven point lead,” said Coach Rob Garrett. "We maintained our lead for a while, but then we had a tough time getting the ball up the court and Adna was able to take a lead.”

The Mules ultimately won the game 55-53.

Sam Boyce led all scorers with 15 points, followed by Tori Wegdahl with a double double, 10 points and 10 rebounds. Haylee Budd scored nine, Maya Stanley eight, Baylee Olsen six, Kaylee Byrant five and Hailey Quigley scored two.

Budd also pulled down six rebounds while Bryant had five. Boyce was busy defensively and got away with three steals.

Shooting remained a struggle, at 36 percent.

“Unfortunately, we had a tough time making lay ups so the game was much closer than it should have been,” said Coach Garrett. “As the game came closer to the end our girls really picked up the defense as we went into a full court press. Tori Wegdahl came up huge down the stretch scoring all 10 of her points in the fourth and getting two great steals as well as a charge.”

Garrett continues to be proud of the team’s growth. “The girls came out and played with more heart than they have played with all year,” he said.

In a consecutive day of travel with illness plaguing the team, the Lady Mules beat Winlock, 49-42, despite continuing to struggle with shooting, which remains at 23 percent.

“It was a rough game for us,” said Coach Garrett. “We were missing a couple of girls who were sick, so we were short handed. Sam Boyce really played a great game and was able to carry us offensively and Tori Wegdahl came up with 16 rebounds for us, which gave us a lot of extra opportunities. Hailey Quigley played tough at the defensive end creating a lot of turnovers for Winlock.”

Boyce led scoring with 22 points and seven rebounds. Olsen scored eight; Rachel Patching had six points and eight rebounds. Hailey Quigley had six points and six rebounds. Maya Stanley scored four, and Wegdahl three.

Tigers stop Mules

On Tuesday, the Napavine Tigers stopped the Mules in a 61-40 game.

Boyce led the Mule scoring with 18 points and Olsen had eight. Wegdahl and Budd each scored four, Quigley three, Morgan Elliott two, and Kaylee Byrant one.

Budd had eight rebounds, Bryant six, and Rachel Patching pulled down five. Boyce had three assists. Maya Stanley did not play because of illness.

The Lady Mules head to Pe Ell tonight (Thursday). They entertain Morton/White Pass on Saturday and Onalaska next Tuesday.
