J. Agnes Toste, 92, of Cathlamet, passed away on January 11th at her home. Agnes was born to Archie and Mary (McDougall) Campbell in Moosemin, Saskatchewan, Canada on November 25,1920.
After her mother’s death when she was young her family moved to Peace River, Alberta where she graduated high school and in 1943 she moved to Sacramento, California, where she lived and worked until meeting Manuel Toste.
She and Manuel married on July 9,1964 and she moved to Cathlamet. Agnes worked as Treasurer/Clerk for the City of Cathlamet for 15 years, retiring in 1980. For over 20 years Agnes and Manuel enjoyed winters in the Palm Springs area.
In 1991 Manuel preceded her in death. Agnes is survived by a stepson, Ray Toste, a stepdaughter, Mary Toste, a daughter-in-law, Linda Toste, two brothers and wives, Edwin and Diana Campbell, Leslie and Emma Campbell and sister-in-law, Peggy Campbell. She also has four grandchildren, Samantha, Paul, Brian and Joe Toste and two great grandsons, Dennis and Jack, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to Manuel she was preceded by her brother and sister, Ronald and Catherine Campbell.
A celebration of Agnes’ life will be held on Thursday, Jan. 17th at 1 p.m. at Dowling Funeral Chapel in Cathlamet. In lieu of flowers those wishing to may contribute to Wahkiakum Historical Society or Cathlamet First Aid Division P.O.Box 142 Cathlamet,WA 98612. Dowling Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
