Port 1 raises salaries, considers launch changes

Port District No. 1 commissioners approved raises for port management during their January 10 meeting.

The commissioners approved resolutions authorizing 2.5 percent salary increases for Port Manager Jackie Lea and Assistant Port Manager Abe York. The raises were made effective January 1, 2013.

Reservations for spring Chinook salmon season are not coming in as fast as in previous years, said Lea. She added that she expects them to pick up once the season is set at the end of the month.

Lea said recent surveys of vehicles in the marina parking lot on weekends had identified that some license plates were not showing up on launch tickets as fee-paying day users, nor were the vehicles registered to annual permit holders.

She asked the commissioners to consider changing the annual launch permit renewal period from January to March in order to be more congruent in timing with waterfowl hunting seasons.

The commissioners approved the change. York said port staff would work with current permit holders to grandfather them in to the new renewal schedule.

The commissioners held an executive session to discuss property acquisition, but took no action after the session.
