What's happening at the Fair?

Last week, the Wahkiakum County Fair Board elected new officers. Taking office in 2013: President Bill Chamberlain, Vice-President Phil Vik, Treasurer Rick Damitio, Secretary Maureen Zacker-Bockius. Congratulations to all and I look forward to another productive year at the Fairgrounds.

Thanks for stopping by the rummage and book sale last Saturday. It was so cold in the T-building that some nice folks made a donation towards the purchase of a heater for me to stand by. I must admit I got very cold at our five hour sale! The next rummage and book sale will be held in January 2013. We will be setting out 100’s of new books for you to purchase. Watch this column or the Wahkiakum County Fair face book page for the date of the next sale.

Volunteers gathered last Sunday at the Fairgrounds to split and stack a mountain of big alder firewood rounds. A few months ago Commissioner Dan Cothren fell these dangerous leaning trees at the fairgrounds. Bill Chamberlain, Ed Stevens and Mac Johnson, after many days of chainsaw work, finally got all the trees cut into rounds. Helping Sunday with this firewood fundraising project were Jason Rainey, Justin Rainey, Ryan Helms, Ed Stevens, MacKenzie Stevens, Georgie Billings and myself. The time and effort these hard working volunteers give freely to support our Wahkiakum County Fair is very much appreciated!

The next Wahkiakum County Fair Board fundraising event will be the Valentine Diamond Dinner. The dinner will be held on February 9th, 2013 at the beautiful Skamokawa Grange Hall. The tickets for this event cost $25 a person and can be purchased at the Bank of the Pacific in Cathlamet. With each purchased dinner ticket, at the event, you will receive one raffle ticket for this year’s grand prize; a diamond bracelet. At the event you can also purchase additional raffle tickets for $1 each for a greater chance of winning this beautiful bracelet. If you need a gift for a special couple, two tickets to this dinner would certainly make a nice Christmas gift. Just tuck the tickets in a Christmas Card. If you live out of town and would like to attend the dinner, give me a call at 1-360-795-3434 and I will make arrangements to get some tickets sent in the mail.

The Wahkiakum County Fair Board : Bill Chamberlain, Phil Vik, Rick Damitio, Shawn Merz, Joe Blalock, Neil Beerbower, Jim Moten, Janet Bryan, Martha Backman, Susan Rawls, Maureen Zacker-Bockius and Becky Ledtke would like to wish a Merry Christmas to all the wonderful people in Wahkiakum County!
