Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
The Wahkiakum County Fair Board would like to say thank you to the many bingo players who attended Turkey Bingo last Friday night.
The winning card holders received a big turkey or a ham for their bingo. During one game, there were four bingos at the same time and Mike Backman, our number caller, had to call a bingo run-off to determine the winner. Now that’s intense bingo! We also had two games of black-out bingo; the winners were Samantha Wright and Kim Hedges. They both received a complete dinner plus a turkey. I suspect there will be some delicious Thanksgiving dinners in Wahkiakum County cooked this week by many of our lucky bingo players.
We had a table covered with raffle prizes donated to this event from friends and businesses. Special thanks to Hancock Forest Management, Hanigan Law Office, Bank of America, Kay and Bill Chamberlain, Janet Bryan, Becky and Jerry Ledtke, Maureen Zacher-Bockius, Nancy George, Christeena Bassi, Skamokawa Resort, Wahkiakum County Fair, Skamokawa Vista Park, Wahkiakum Fair Foundation, Cathlamet Market and Cheerful Tortoise from Portland. Whether you donated funds to purchase turkeys and hams or donated merchandise, your donations help bring people to our fund raising events, make them successful and are very much appreciated!
Kayrene Gilbertsen bought the lucky raffle ticket of the event and took home our grand prize, a Sears Kenmore barbecue. Congratulations, Kayrene!
It took an energetic group of volunteers to plan this bingo and many people to prepare the event area. This fund raising event for our Fair was a success due to the volunteer work of Janet Bryan, Maureen Zacher-Bockius, Kay and Bill Chamberlain, Becky and Jerry Ledtke, Bryan Ledtke, Blair Brady, Joe Blalock, David Blalock, Rick Damitio, Tina Vincent, Nancy Moore, Kayrene Gilbertsen and special thanks to our bingo caller, Mike Backman. We all had a great time, hope you did too and we are already planning our next bingo event.
If you enjoyed our Turkey Bingo be sure to bring your family and friends to our Easter Bingo in March. All proceeds from Wahkiakum County Fair Board fund raising events will be used to maintain, improve and operate your 2013 Wahkiakum County Fair.
Time to send in a Fair theme. In early 2013 we will be choosing the 2013 Fair theme. If we pick the one you submitted, you will receive two fair passes and two Wahkiakum County Fair T-shirts. Send your theme entry to Wahkiakum County Fair, P.O.Box 1, Skamokawa, WA 98647 or by email to wahkiakumfair@centurytel.net. Last year’s theme was “Hay Bales and Pig Tales.”
Need some firewood for next year? For just $1 you can purchase a raffle ticket for a cord of alder firewood. The winning ticket for this fund raiser will be drawn at the 2013 Wahkiakum County Fair. Raffle tickets will be for sale at the fair office and at all Wahkiakum County Fair Board fund raising events.
The fair office is open by appointment only. If you need to gain access to the fairgrounds contact Fair Manager Becky Ledtke at 360-795-3480 and leave a message.
The next Wahkiakum County Fair Board meeting is December 12, 7 p.m., at the Wahkiakum County Court House, 3rd floor meeting room in Cathlamet. The public is welcome to attend.
