SOAKED--Well, I hope you enjoyed the first half of this past weekends' weather, as it sure was nice compared to what showed up on Sunday. It just poured and blew and by Monday morning, Chamberlain Lake has arrived yet once again. I understand that we have a dry day coming our way and I'm sure we'd all like to be taking advantage of that when it shows up, as with Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up on us, we've got lots to do.
BINGO TOMORROW NIGHT--Tomorrow night, (Friday) is Turkey Bingo time once again, as the Wahkiakum Fair Board hosts this annual event to help our county fair and keep it going, so your support is extremely appreciated. You've got a chance to win one of many prizes during the game, as well as either a ham or turkey for getting a bingo. Of course, the big raffle item this year is the very nice Sears barbecue, so, please come to the JA Wendt Elementary school's Multi-purpose Room tomorrow night. The doors open at 5:30 p.m. with bingo beginning at 6 p.m. Come and have a hot dog and enjoy some treats as well!

Calendars are still just $7 and they need to be prepaid, so send a check or money order to the Lions Club at PO Box 214, Skamokawa, WA 98647. Delivery is expected by December 1 and they really make great Christmas gifts so order an extra one for a friend!
THANKSGIVING--There is no end to the things to do for the big Thanksgiving Day holiday that is coming upon us next week. We hope you'll be able to enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving with friends and family. First of all, if you have no where to go or no one to be with and you'd like to enjoy some company for turkey dinner, then you might like to go over to the Heritage Bible Church on North Welcome Slough on Puget Island. For a donation of a can of food or other donation you can have Thanksgiving dinner with them. Maybe you just don't want to cook and would like to support the food bank or the church, you're welcome to come. The dinner is from 2 to 6 p.m. and if you don't have a ride over to Puget Island, you can get picked up at the Cathlamet Pharmacy parking lot at 1:45 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. They do need a head count though, so contact (360) 957-5368 if you're planning on attending.
THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY--After Thanksgiving, the holidays really spring into action with a multitude of activities, from enjoying music and cider and lots of wonderful handmade items or books and more from the wonderful array of things at Redmen Hall beginning November 23. Sunrise Fletcher will be entertaining you that first day and the Harmony Hearts will be there to sing for you on December 1 at 1 p.m. The Friends of Skamokawa's Come Home for the Holidays bazaar will continue through December 16 with the hall being open from Thursday to Sundays, noon to 4 p.m. Come and check out the hall in all its holiday finery and pick out some wonderful local gift items for that special person your list.
Gribskov Glass is having their holiday sale of hand-blown glass items at Kyle's place here in Skamokawa, at 123 Middle Valley Road, and with 20 percent off everything. You can head his way both November 23 and 24 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. While you're there, you might just want to sign up for glass blowing classes, which would begin the fourth week in November. In order to give him a heads up, you might want to let him know you're interested ahead of time by calling 795-8419.
Beings you're already in the Skamokawa area you might as well drop by the Skamokawa Methodist Church sometime on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. as they are holding their holiday bazaar on that one day only. They'll also be selling chili and corn bread for lunch, so keep that in mind. They still have some table spots to rent, but hurry before they're all gone, just $10. Contact Carol at 795-3337 right away.
In Cathlamet that day, you can enjoy the Festival of the Trees and the Christmas Tree lighting on Saturday as well, so there's going to be a whole lot to do this Thanksgiving weekend that's coming up next week.
PIANO CONCERT--On November 25, you are welcome to come and listen to Award Winning Oregon pianist John Nilsen in concert at the Skamokawa United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. While there is no charge or fee at the door, a collection will be taken.
SONS OF NORWAY--On the first Wednesday of every month, the Sons of Norway hold their monthly meetings in the basement of the Norse Hall on Puget Island. On November 7, there were 20 of us there. Teed Prestegard and yours truly were among the newest members in attendance. Naturally, you are welcome to attend and even better yet, join the group as they continue to raise money for the continuing maintenance and upkeep of the hall, which serves as a great meeting place.
The group did well with their lefse sales recently and will be selling more soon when they hold their annual Christmas party, on December 2. The group held their election of officers that evening as well and with a motion to keep officers the same, the decision was unanimous and Jan Silvestri will continue as President, David Nelson as VP, Susan Brown as Secretary, Gene Healy as Treasurer, Cheryl Nelson as Secretary Treasurer and Virginia Ostling as Social Director.
COLLUPY GLASS--In just three weeks time, you'll be able to come down to the Skamokawa Resort's meeting room and enjoy shopping amongst all the beautiful hand-blown glass items made by local Treasure Collupy. This will take place on December 7 and 8 and just like last year, the Collupys are donating 15 percent of what they make to St. James Center, so you'll be helping a good cause, supporting a local business and purchasing a unique gift for yourself or someone else as well!
HOLIDAY DINNER--Now, if you happen to be down here enjoying Treasure's sale on December 8, you may just want to stay down this way and enjoy the Skamokawa Grange and Skamokawa Fire Department's spaghetti dinner at the Skamokawa Grange hall that evening from 6 to 8 p.m. If at all possible, Santa plans on coming to hand out treat bags to the kids, so we hope you'll come and eat, buy a few raffle tickets and maybe you'll be the winner of the big $300 gift basket, or the darling handmade footstool or one of several other gifts that are being given away that evening. Tickets for the basket are available in Cathlamet and at the Skamokawa Store.
END OF SEASON--Well, sadly our Mules and Lady Mules ended their football and volleyball seasons with losses in the finals but they can be very proud of themselves for the job that they did, and we're certainly proud of them as well. Now it's on to basketball and we hope the Mighty Mules come on strong. Go Mules!
GRANGE MEETING--All members of the Skamokawa Grange are asked to attend the next meeting which is this coming Monday as we will be electing our officers that night. We will begin with a potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m.
SAD NEWS--Our sympathies go out ot the family of a former Puget Island resident Frieda McNally, who passed away this last Monday at the age of 97. Frieda was a frequent visitor at our house, as she had been a good friend and school mate of my mom's. I can just see my mom Carol Everest Pedersen Smith, Ora Eaton and Frieda now, talking up a storm and keeping heaven awake at night with their best friends chatter once again. May they all rest in peace.
