Mules compete in state tourney

The Wahkiakum Lady Mules finished their season at the State Class 2B Volleyball Tournament with one win and two losses, failing to place.

On Friday, November 9, the Mules faced a tough competitor in their first match, second ranked Bear Creek. They lost in three games, 25-13, 25-15, 25-20. Bear Creek finished third overall.

A win against White Swan in three games, 25-16, 25-17, 25-20, kept their hopes alive in the double elimination tournament.

On Saturday, they fought hard against Darrington but lost in four games, 25-9, 18-25, 26-24, 25-22. Darrington went on to play eighth.

Madison LaBerge received the sportsmanship award in the Bear Creek match; Baylee Olsen received the award against White Swan, and Maya Stanley received the award against Darrington.

Reardan eventually took first place in this year’s tournament.

Seniors Marissa Washington, Amy Gawith, Hailey Quigley and Haylee Budd will be missed.

The young team will return next year, with a lot of talented players experienced in district and state play.
