Mule volleyball: One gets away, one doesn't

The Wahkiakum Mule volleyball team won a 3-2 match at Toutle Lake on Monday and lost a 3-2 match last Thursday at home to Morton/White Pass.

"We had a big win tonight in five," said Mule Coach Kaylie Hurley. The Mules won by scores of 20-25, 25-20, 25-22, 19-25, 15-12.

"My setter, Haylee Budd, went down with an ankle sprain in the game," Hurley said. "A sophomore, Morgan Elliot, came in and performed like we needed her to. She had 22 assists through games 3-5. She also chipped in nine service points.

"Tori Wegdahl had 26 kills and 11 service points.

Kaylee Bryant hit a huge .750 with six kills, no errors, for her eight attempts and five solo blocks."

Last Thursday, the Mules started strong but couldn't contain the Timberwolves down the stretch last lost to Morton/White Pass by scores of 25-16, 25-15, 13-25, 24-26, 11-15.

Hurley complimented the play of Hailey Quigley with six kills, Tyra Elliott with seven service points and Maya Stanley, serve receive.

The Monday win gave the team a 4-4 record in league play. District playoffs start next week; Hurley said the team would have to see how other teams fared to determine district seedings.
