Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
To The Eagle:
These are sad brutal times when the newspaper has a policy against printing poetry.
I read your editorial guidelines with dismay, but wondered, what is poetry really? Modern poetry is defined by both it’s profound irrelevance and it’s focus on vernacular and visual presentation. I think it’s not a stretch to read many of these folksy political diatribes as some of the best poetry ever written, and therefore ineligible for publication.
I hope The Eagle considers relaxing its policy on publishing poetry. As is, I find crafting my letters with a deliberate attempt not to rhyme, almost crippling.
