Naselle Lutheran Church celebrates Harvest Fest
A Harvest Fest will be held at the Naselle Lutheran Church on October 27 from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Sausage and sauerkraut will be available for lunch for a donation. Fresh donuts and soft pretzels will also be served from the kitchen. The Lutheran bakers offer a variety of breads and other oven delicacies including some of the traditional Finnish recipes.
Fresh cranberries for holiday serving, as well as arrangements for decorating and a variety of handmade items can be purchased.
The church is located at 308 Knappton Road in Naselle. All proceeds will go to the Paint & Roof Fund.
All invited to SAR's Halloween Dance
Wahkiakum Search and Rescue will host a Halloween Dance on October 27 for all ages.
Sponsored in part by The Wahkiakum Community Network, the event will include a costume contest, music by Columbia Crew, and refreshments provided by Sugar Lilies and Bottoms Up Espresso. It will run from 6-10 p.m. in the multi-purpose room at J.A. Wendt Elementary School.
The event is alcohol free and children under 16 must be accompanied by a guardian. Donations are accepted for admittance with all proceeds going to benefit Wahkiakum Search and Rescue.
Archive Center presents part two of North Star
Part II of Under the North Star, will be shown at the Appelo Archive Center in Naselle on October 20, at 10:30 a.m.
Part II of the film covers the third book of the trilogy written by Väinö Linna. Titled “The Reconciliation” by translator Richard Impala, it deals with the aftermath of the Civil War in Finland, the Lapua movement of 1929-1932, the depression in the 1930s, the Winter War of 1939-1940, the Continuation War of 1941-1944, and finally the calm of the the post-WW II years.
There is no admission charge, but donations of $5 are recommended. The film is 129 minutes, and in Finnish with English subtitles. It is not recommended for children due to sex and nudity, violence and gore, frightening/intense scenes, profanity, alcohol/drugs/smoking.
The Archive Center is located at 1056 SR 4 in Naselle.
Timberlands property reopens to public
Longview Timberlands LLC property in Oregon and Washington will be re-opened to public recreational entry due to the reduced risk of forest fire danger.
Most of the land will be reopened to walk-in recreational use except for areas of active operations and those counties east of the mountains.
"Recent rainfall and cool weather has reduced fire danger," said General Manager Chris Lipton. "We are still asking the public to use caution and not smoke on our property."

Get your costumes ready for Neewollah Daze
Kids of all ages are invited to take part in the annual Neewollah Daze celebrations.
This year’s celebration will be held at Bank of the Pacific on October 31 with judging of scary, beautiful, funny, original costumes to begin at 4 p.m.
There will be several categories with a prize bag for each participant. Cookies and punch will be served.

Historical society sets annual meeting
The annual meeting of the Wahkiakum County Historical Society will be held October 20, at 11 a.m. in the newly completed museum addition behind the museum at 65 River Street.
After a short business meeting which will include election of officers for the coming year, there will be a potluck lunch, a report by president Judy Brawn, a drawing to determine the winner of the society's recent boat raffle and a presentation by guest speaker Ray Gardner, Tribal Council Chairman of the Chinook tribe.
All museum members and the general public are invited to attend.
