To The Eagle:
As your ballots are mailed out this week, I take the liberty of reminding all that every vote counts and what a privilege we have in our country to do so.
There are many problems with our system as we all know, but I know of none better. On our local election, I point out a problem in our county commissioner elections. The current terms are four years rather than three or six years. That means that two commissioners come up for election at the same time. This creates the possibility of losing two experience commissioners at the same time, creating an incredible brain drain upon our county. Needless to say, this cannot be healthy.
This is a problem that cannot be changed on the local level. Having looking into changing the terms, I have found that it will require a state constitutional change. We are, as a county, progressing with being compensated for the timber lands, that we rely upon to support our community, that have been taken away from us. The value of continuity of service working in this area cannot be overstated.
Please take this into serious consideration as you cast your ballots for a healthy Wahkiakum County going into the future.
Please let's not lose two commissioners this election!
