What's happening at the Fair?

Fair Premium checks are in the mail and will be delivered to your mail box in the next few days. Please cash your check as soon as you receive it! All checks need to be cashed by November 10.

We are always looking for new ways to bring in funding to support our Fair. We have a new Wahkiakum County Fair Board fund raiser. We are selling delicious smoked sockeye salmon. After our fair time salmon barbecue we had a few fillets left, Commissioner Blair Brady suggested we get the salmon smoked and packaged ready to sell. The salmon was smoked at C&H Classic Smoked Fish by Mr. Mike Clark. Mike donated the cost of smoking the salmon. Thank you, Mr. Clark and C&H Classic Smoked Fish!

This great tasting smoked salmon comes in packages that cost $4 to $7, depending on the size of the pieces you are purchasing. To place an order, call the fairgrounds and leave your name, phone number and a short message. We have pepper smoked and regular smoked salmon for sale. Great for lunch snacks and little gifts to give to friends.

I have been receiving phone calls from people wanting to know if we are going to open up our rummage sale. Yes we are! I am planning to be open by Saturday, October 20. We are hoping in the next few weeks to get everything unpacked and ready to sell. There are lots of interesting items at our rummage sale to purchase and hundreds of good reading books you’ll want to take home and read this winter. In next week’s column, I will have list of some new donated items that may be of interest to you. We will also be selling smoked salmon.

Missing some eye glasses? Could you have left them at the fairgrounds during fair time? As we were straightening up the fairgrounds buildings we have collected three pairs of eye glasses. Please call the fairgrounds if you think a pair might be yours.

It’s time to think about a fair theme for the 2013 Fair. The whole fairgrounds will be decorated to fit the theme that is selected. Email your theme ideas to: wahkiakumfair@centurytel.net. In early 2013 we will be choosing the fair theme, if we pick the one you submitted, you will receive two fair passes and two Wahkiakum County Fair T-shirts. This year’s theme was Hay Bales & Pig Tails. You can send me one or a hundred theme ideas!

If you have some community service hours you need to complete, we could use your help at the fairgrounds. We will be scheduling work days for the next few weeks. If you have hours to complete, give me a call. I am compiling a list of phone numbers and will return your call when we are ready to start a project.

On November 16 we will hold the Wahkiakum County Fair Board’s Turkey Bingo. This is a fun night for all ages and you just might win your Thanksgiving turkey at the bingo. Keep reading this column for more details each week!

The Fairgrounds are open for limited hours in October. If you need to gain access to the fairgrounds contact Manager Becky Ledtke at 560-0371, or you can call 360-795-3480 and leave a message on the fairgrounds answering machine.

The next Wahkiakum County Fair Board meeting is November 14, 7 p.m., T-Building, at the fairgrounds in Skamokawa. The public is welcome to attend.
