Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
Thomas Middle School Warrior football Coach Kevin Patching filed this report of the team's progress this season:
Penalties and big plays cost the Warriors in their first home game. Adna used a long run and 85 pass play to edge the Warriors 19-7 on September 13. In total, Adna had 28 carries for 115 yards and seven pass completions for 142 yards. Hank Ferguson led the Warriors with 11 carries for 133 yards; Jordyn Crawford had six carries for 44 yards, and Zach Brown was four carries for 12 yards. We struggled in the passing game completing just one of eight. It was our first 11 man game of the season and we were not sharp at all. Leading tacklers were Brown, Ferguson, Michael Zurich, Cody Terspma, and Dylan Ahmed.
The Warriors traveled to Onalaska on September 20 and used strong defense to dominate the Loggers, holding them to 54 total yards on the night with 30 of those yards coming from penalties. Crawford had seven carries for 91 yards with two touchdowns and had two catches for 45 yards and one touchdown. Ferguson toted the ball 10 times for 91 yards and one reception for 40 yards. Brown completed three of five passes for 85 yards and two TD’s. Defensive line of Brock Cothren, Kurtis Bergseng, Dylan Ahmed, Connor Thompson, Michael Zurich, and Cody Terpsma came up big all night long stuffing the run and pressuring the Onalaska QB. Zurich lead with 15 tackles, Ahmed had six; Ferguson, Parker Patching, Brown, and Crawford had five.
On September 27, the Warriors hosted Winlock Cardinals and pounded out a 12-6 victory. Winlock scored their only TD on a long 69 yard run after we almost had the runner tackled for a loss on fourth down. All the kids thought the play was over except the runner. He squirted out of the grasp of three kids and raced down the sideline for six points. The Warrior defense put the clamps on Winlock after that. Ahmed, Cothren, Aaron West, Bergseng, Thompson and Zurich clogged up the line while Ferguson, Nathan Dault, Patching, Crawford, Brown, Casey Wilson and Bryce Good kept the runners and receivers in check. Winlock had 27 carries for 166 yards and 43 passing. The Warriors had 31 carries for 235 yards; Crawford with nine for 110, Ferguson with 19 for 103, Brown was three carries for 12 yards. He completed passes to Patching, and two to Crawford, one a 40-yard TD.
The Warriors travel to Toutle on October 11.
