With the reader board flashing the word “Homecoming” to oncoming traffic, spectators crowded around Reuben Penttila Field to cheer on the Naselle Comets Friday evening.

Clad in blue and gold, they cheered as the Comets scored on a 73-yard drive against the undefeated Willapa Valley Vikings. Comet quarterback Dustin Eaton opened the scoring on a 34-yard run to open the scoring.

However, after an injury to running back Sam Scrabeck Naselle lost momentum. Valley took advantage by intercepting the ball and tied the score at 6 -6. The short-handed Comets continued to fight back. Eaton passed to Chapman for a score right before halftime to cut the Viking lead to 21-12.

Eaton connected with Brenden Greenfield for 11 yards and a touchdown in the fourth quarter, but Valley had the advantage in the game and left Naselle down 34-20. The Comets are now 3-1 and 1-1 in league play, while Valley remains undefeated at 4-0, and 2-0 in the Pacific.
