Youth Advocacy Group seeks parent involvement

Students from Wahkiakum High School are asking for parent involvement in the Wahkiakum High School Youth Advocacy Group.

The Youth Advocacy Group is a coalition of administration, students, parents, mental health professionals and law enforcement representatives that have a vested interest in bettering the experience of students that attend Wahkiakum High School. The purpose of the Youth Advocacy Group is to strengthen the partnership and collaboration between students and school administration to develop a healthy environment of learning, respect, and clear behavior guidelines. The group will meet regularly to discuss current, relevant issues that prohibit or strengthen a healthy learning environment.

The Youth Advocacy Group is inviting all parents that are interested in being a part of this group to attend the first meeting of the 2012-2013 school year on September 12 at 7 p.m. at the Wahkiakum High School Library. Special Vespers planned

for Deep River Church

St. James Episcopal Church will hold a special Ecumenical Vespers service at the historic Deep River Lutheran Church on September 9 at 3 p.m.

The service will feature special music and a choir.

Wine tasting this weekend

The Friends of Skamokawa Foundation's "A Cornucopia of Wines--Auction and Wine Tasting" will take place this Saturday at the Skamokawa Grange.

The doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the Silent Auction and wine tasting begins at 7 p.m. The live auction will begin at 8 p.m. with Brian McClain of McClain Auctions.

Tickets can be purchased at The Skamokawa Resort, Redmen Hall, The Video Store and the Bank of the Pacific in Cathlamet. Single tickets are $15 and couples are $25. They can also be purchased at the door on the night of the auction.

Health and Prevention

Fair September 22

Youth and Family Link will hold a Health and Prevention Fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on September 22 at 907 Douglas Street in Longview.

The fair will include booths from several community resource agencies, free games and activities, a bounce house, and giveaways. For more information about the fair, contact Melissa Herschbach at 423-6741.
