Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
Marion Theresa "Mickey" Carver, 88, of Cathlamet and previously Oak Island, N.C., passed into the arms of her Savior on August 31, 2012 at St. John Hospital in Longview.
Mickey was born in 1924 in Trenton, N.J., to Marion Theresa Christof and John J. Maloney. She graduated from Trention Central High School in 1942 and married Robert Carver in 1944 at Trinity Episcopal "Old Swedes" Church in Swedesboro, N.J. She began a degree at Rider Business College which was interrupted by Robert being transferred to Florida with the Army Air Force. She finished her degree through Thomas Edison State College after her children were grown. The job she most enjoyed was being an administrative assistant for 13 years at Stockton State College, from which she retired in 1984.
Loving and serving the Lord were integral to Mickey's life. She was active in church activities wherever she lived, most recently St. Phillips Episcopal Church in Southport, N.C. and, after she moved west permanently, St. James Episcopal Church in Cathlamet. She was a lay pastoral care minister, lay eucharistic minister, a member of the Order of St. Luke and the Order of the Daughters of the King. Mickey was also a past member of the advisory council to the Southwest Washington Agency on Aging and Disability and a member of the Cathlamet Woman's Club and Orthopedic Guild.
In addition to church service, Mickey especially enjoyed each of her extended, far-flung family, travelling back and forth between the east and west coasts each summer for over 20 years. She loved travel, handwork, reading and as all who knew her will agree, she simply loved life in all ways. Her spirit and grace in aging, despite painful chronic arthritis, brought joy to many others.
Mickey was preceded in death by her husband Robert in 2002. She is survived by her dear friend Craig Brown; children Carol Carver (George Exum), Robert B. Carver (Cheree), and Lynn Carver McCahan (Keith); granddaughters Maiya Exum Kiest (Rusty), Sarah Exum (Micky Mihailovich), Lauren Gerstmyer (Brad) with great-granddaughter Eva Elizabeth; Katelyn Stenerson (Kyle) with great-granddaughter Adah Lynn; beloved sister-in-law Ruth Carver and Dr. Joy (FKA-Pat Carver), her son Thomas Miller III, wife Jessica and their children Amber, Jade, Marley and Jet.
A memorial service followed by a reception will be held on September 10 at St. James Church, 1134 Columbia Street, Cathlamet at 4 p.m. A memorial at St. Phillips Church in Southport, N.C. will be held on September 21 at 11 a.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. James Family Center, 1134 Columbia Street, Cathlamet, WA 98612 or St. Phillips Church, P.O. Box 10476, Southport, NC, 28461.
