Wine tasting, auction set for September 8
The Friends of Skamokawa Foundation presents "A Cornucopia of Wines--Auction and Wine Tasting." The auction takes place at the Skamokawa Grange, located off the fairgrounds entrance in Skamokawa, on September 8.
The doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the Silent Auction and wine tasting begins at 7 p.m. The live auction will begin at 8 p.m. with Brian McClain of McClain Auctions.
Silent auction items include gift certificates, a silver teapot, a hand made cuttingboard, framed art, gift baskets, a hanging basket, hand painted wooden tray, electric chain saw trimmer, and much more.
Live auction items include two nights at the Inn at Skamokawa Landing, a night at the Villa at Little Cape Horn, dinner for six at the Inn at Crippen Creek with live music by the Willapa Hills Band, a guided fishing trip for two adults, a night on Vashon Island with dinner for two at the Hardware Store Restaurant, blown glass by Treasure Collupy, a carved bird by Arnold Mikelson, a stained glass picture of Mt. St. Helens by Theresa Videon, and a hand carved Santa by Tina Toney.
Tickets can be purchased at The Skamokawa Resort, Redmen Hall, and the Bank of the Pacific in Cathlamet. Single tickets are $15 and couples are $25. They can also be purchased at the door on the night of the auction.
Elder Options offers home care aide class
Care Careers Academy is offering the new Home Care Aide training class starting September 4 at Elder Options, 872 15th Ave. in Longview.
This training replaces the 28 hour Fundamentals of Caregiving class and is required in Washington State for all persons wanting to work in long term care. Care Careers Academy also provides the certification testing that is required to become a certified Home Care Aide.
Washington State voters approved initiative-1163 in November, 2011 that requires all persons working in adult family homes, assisted living facilities, retirement communities and home care settings to be certified.

Puget Island author to read at Celebration of Washington Artists
Puget Island author Ruby Murray will read at A Celebration of Washington Artists.
An exhibit reception will be held on September 7 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, featuring the work of nearly 200 film, literary and visual artists who have graduated from Artist Trust’s EDGE Professional Development Program since 2003.
Murray, who participated in the Edge, an Artist Trust program focusing on professional development in 2010, will read from her novel in progress, The Heart Stays People.
Her work has appeared in American Ghost: Poets on life after Industry, Oregon Humanities Magazine and Oregon Public Broadcasting. The exhibit runs through October 18.

Timberland Regional Libraries have released their calendar for September through October.
