To The Eagle:
We will be voting for Jon Haugen to represent us in Congress from the Third Congressional District from the State of Washington.
Being a military veteran and a person of good conscience, he will represent the people of his district well.
He is running against Jamie Herrera Beutler, in both the primary and general elections. Four important areas are among his priorities:
- The Affordable Care Act must be kept in place because repealing it would be a disaster for young people, people with pre-existing conditions and those with high prescription costs. Admittedly, the act is not perfect and will require revisions in the future but repealing it would set us back years and would hurt those who most need improved health care and help mostly the drug providers and health insurance companies. Herrera Beutler wants this law repealed even though most of the provisions in the act are very similar to those promoted by Mitt Romney when he was governor of Massachusetts.
- He would strongly promote getting us out of Afghanistan within 90 days while Herrera Beutler wants to leave our exit strategy up to the generals. We are under the impression that this sort of decision, by constitutional mandate, is up to the civilian arm of the government.
- He would oppose the Ryan/Romney budget proposal which the General Accounting Office indicates would cost us $106 billion and severely damage social security, Medicare, and education as well as many other social services. Herrera Beutler, of course, supports this budget proposal.
- On more of a local level, still a potentially huge chunk of the federal budget, is the Columbia River Crossing (CRC) which is grossly expensive and will actually increase traffic problems in the I-5 corridor is opposed by this candidate. He feels there are better ways to solve the problem faster and less expensively. Herrera Beutler favors the CRC in its current form.
Again we, as well as many of our friends and acquaintances, will be voting for Jon Haugen to represent us in Congress. Please join us with your vote.
