James C. Durrah

James C. Durrah, 87, of Cathlamet, died May 27, 2012 at Community Hospice in Longview with his loving wife Adeline by his side.

Jimmy was born to Elmer and Nellie (Larson) Durrah on January 2, 1925 in Astoria. He lived his entire life in Wahkiakum County, graduating from Naselle High School in 1943. Jimmy owned logging companies for most of his adult life, the first one being Durrah-McCormick Logging and later Durrah-Martin Logging . Both were owned with his brother George Durrah who preceded him in death in 2006. He retired in the mid 1990s and spent time traveling, which he loved, fishing, oystering, clamming and trips to Alaska, and winters in Yuma, Ariz., with his friends. He loved to dance and make everyone smile. Jimmy was well loved and will be missed by all who knew him!

In 1991 he was preceded by his wife Bertha and married Adeline Peterson in September 1996, who survives him at home.

He was a member of the Kelso-Longview Elks, the Eagles and the Moose Lodge. Besides Adeline, Jimmy is survived by his sons Richard “Rick” and Dwaine Durrah, step sons, Martin Leo and Gary Peterson, and Leo Kimm and step daughters Donna Hamilton, Signe Peterson and Jeannette Koleonin, many grand and great-grandchildren, a niece and two nephews. He was also preceded by a brother Harold Durrah, a sister Helen Durrah and his first wife Charlene Levitt.

A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, June 3 at Skamokawa United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. with burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Cathlamet. Viewing will be held at Dowling Chapel in Cathlamet today (Thursday) from 4-7 p.m. Donations in Jimmy’s name may be made to Community Home Health and Hospice P.O.Box 2067 Longview, WA 98632.
