Beware wolf at the door

To The Eagle:

Rural property owners of Wahkiakum, beware the wolf is trying to sneak in our back door.

Are we back to the Shorebank of Chicago and the National Park Service? Are backers of that now trying to place the votes they need to put our entire county under the park service by trying to put individuals on our county commission who will back their proposal. If they succeed in this, we, the rural property owners, are in trouble.

The park service attempts to change our building code, etc. by waving money at small counties to place zoning and building restrictions, etc. on any permitted new project, i.e. where you can put a barn, home drain ditch, etc. on your own property. They will try restricting your cattle and livestock from being anywhere near a stream. In the long term, they will attempt to restrict hunting and fishing in certain areas.

In these hard times it is tempting for small counties who are strapped for money to be lured into this never-ending burden on property owners for a temporary fix of money. We must resist this in every way that we can.

Some of the backers have been promised low or no interest loans to secure help in selling out the property owners. Most of them have little or no interest in rural property except those looking for the free loans.

Watch out for the wolves in this year's election.
