Students bounced into the JC Thomas Middle School gymnasium Friday afternoon clad in brightly colored t-shirts and carrying signs to promote their favorite candidate.
Associated Student Body (ASB) elections were in full swing last week. The halls were decorated with catchy slogans and glitter-covered signs. Students wore t-shirts and stickers advertizing their votes.
Candidates went into classrooms to promote their campaigns and pass out goodies in hopes of winning over their peers. It all came down to the speeches Friday morning where one by one, the candidates, introduced by current ASB president Kennedi LaBerge, walked up to the podium for one last chance at convincing next year’s middle school student body that they were the best choice for the position.
“I was so proud of all of them,” said advisor Tina Merz after the speeches, “They all did an excellent job.”
With the speeches over, students filed back to their classes to place their votes which were quickly tallied up. With a majority of votes in her favor, Cheyenne Barton will represent JC Thomas as their President. Zack Brown will hold the position of Vice President, Parker Patching as Secretary and Ayesha Ahmed as Treasurer.
“It’s a great group,” admits Merz, “We’re going to have a really good year, next year.”
