News from Naselle:
Members of the Naselle Marimba Band spent part of their spring break at a world famous venue and did a mighty fine job of entertaining many while they were at Disneyland. This talented group is to be commended for their efforts in giving so much pleasure to those who hear them. It is pretty obvious when one sees and hears them that they are playing from the heart. What an enjoyable group. Keep up the good vibes. The community is very proud of all of you.
Check out their photos on the school website. It looks like the group had a wonderful time.

Other news from the Westend:
Don’t forget, if you went to school at the old Rosburg School or have a story or two to tell about the life and times of the school, we would like to hear from you. The building will be 75 years old in 2013 and the Johnson Park Advisory Board is preparing to celebrate that fact. But, we need your help.
The Johnson Park Advisory Board invites alumni (all years), employees, and anyone with a story to tell, to join them for tea/coffee and cookies and share some of those tales from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. There will be people there to take notes and record these stories and memories.
If you are interested in helping take notes or just be there to listen, you are welcome. For more information, please contact Penny Gregory or Judy Durrah.
The fish canning class at Johnson Park was quite a success. I stopped in while the fish was being processed and it looked like everyone was pretty impressed with the procedure, thanks to Carol Ervest’s teaching skills. The snacks were good as well. Several ladies came in to have their canning gauges checked also.
The grant for this class also provided several cutting boards and knives to the Grays River Valley Center’s new kitchen. Many thanks.
The Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch that meets at Rosburg Hall will enjoy a wholesome lunch of chicken and dumplings, veggies, hot bread and dessert on the 18th. On the 25th Pat Potter and her volunteers invite you to bring your favorite dish to share for their monthly potluck. There are always lots of delicious dishes for the potluck.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays the Rosburg Senior Community Lunches are served at the same location and are sponsored by CAP. Happy Anniversary wishes to Don and Marlene Wiitala, Lance and Blair Gray and Josh and Kelly Weston. I hope this is just one of many happy celebrations together.
A special happy anniversary to Al and Nancy George. When I asked how many years, neither one could remember, so I guess it has been too many wonderful years to think about. I hope the two of you have many more.
Most sincere condolences go out to the family of Selma Heitsch after her passing. Derek, her son, is a good friend of many of us here in the Grays River/Rosburg area, as he has cows here year round and travels daily from Longview to look after them. Her memorial service was held in Longview last Monday. She was 92 years old.
A tentative date has been set for the road cleanup in our area. Leslie Bolton at the Rosburg Store has had some response from a few folks who are willing to help out with some roadside cleanup. The store will hold a barbecue for all participants on May 19. Leslie is asking that you meet at the store at around 7:30 a.m. For more info contact her at the Rosburg Store.
I also understand that Eden Valley Road looks a lot nicer since Michael and Larissa Gilbert spent several hours picking up cans and debris in that area. Thanks so much for your efforts in making our roads look good.
My sister Diane and I had the pleasure of playing with two really cute little bull calves on Monday. Derek Heitsch asked me to bottle feed a couple of his babies and told me that I could just stick the bottles through the gate in the barn stall where they were, and they would eat. Well, that didn’t happen. They wouldn’t have anything to do with us being there. So, we each took a bottle and backed each one into opposite corners of the stall and had to spend five minutes or so convincing them it was good. Once they latched on, everything was fine; they ate it all and even enjoyed a little head scratching. Thanks, Derek. Good memories of childhood for both of us.
