What's Happening at the Fair?

The Wahkiakum County Fair will be dedicated to the Grays River Grange this year. There will be an article in the Fair book that will explain to our community about the involvement Grays River Grange had in starting our Fair many years ago. Congratulations to the Grays River Grange, I am so happy that you are receiving this honor this year.

A business in our community has donated some items to help support our Fair. Jester Properties is remodeling the Skamokawa Duck Inn. They had to store their tables and chairs somewhere for a few months so into the T-building they went. As time went by Logan and Gretchen thought maybe the Fair could benefit from the sale of these tables and chairs. Jester Properties donated them to the Fair and we will be selling them when we open up the rummage and book sale. Their donation will help support our Fair's needs and we sure appreciate their thoughtfulness.

The weather is still wet and cold but that doesn’t stop a devoted volunteer crew from working on the springtime projects that need to be done. Last week-end many hours were worked to clean up piles and piles of tree limbs. Now a mountain of wood that has been cut into rounds is being split into cord wood. Thank you, Ed Stevens, Bill Chamberlain and Chuck Gaines for volunteering many hours to get this big job done.

The fair theme has been selected for the 2012 Fair. It is Hay Bales and Pig Tales. Jean Beerbower submitted the winning theme. Thank you to all who sent in themes!

As the PUD crew took the big fair banner that stretches across SR 4 in Skamokawa down this year they noticed it had some storm damages. Longtime supporter of our Fair, Esther Gregg, has picked up the banner and is having it repaired and the fair dates changed! Esther has donated the funds to change the dates on this banner for many years. Esther also made a donation so some beautiful flower starts can be purchased by our landscaping crew for the fairgrounds! Thank you, Esther!

The Wahkiakum County Fair will be holding a firewood raffle again this year. We will be selling tickets for $1 each at the fair office and other events including Easter Bingo. The firewood this year will be a mix of maple, alder and hemlock. If you would like to purchase raffle tickets give me a call. The winning firewood raffle ticket will be drawn during our 2012 Wahkiakum County Fair.

Only two weeks until the Wahkiakum County Fair Advisory Board's Easter Bingo! Mark April 6 on your calendar as the night to be at the Wendt Multi-purpose room at 6 p.m. to play Easter Bingo. The grand raffle prize will be a flat screen 42” TV! Be sure to purchase lots of tickets for this great prize.
