Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:
March 12--12:27 p.m. A Second Street resident reported her granddaughter had stolen her cell phone and charged $200 on her bill. 5:20 p.m. A caller reported a capsized trawler on the south side of White's Island. The Coast Guard was advised. 7:47 p.m. An Alder Road resident reported receiving possible scam phone calls seeking his support for local law enforcement agencies. 10:12 p.m. A caller reported a suspected DUI at the Puget Island ferry landing after two subjects were refused passage due to an inability to pay. 11:27 p.m. A caller reported a car had hit an elk on SR 4 near the high school No one was injured and the elk was euthanized.
March 13--10:19 a.m. Deputies, the Cathlamet ambulance and District #4 firefighters responded to a one car accident on SR 4 near County Line Park. 11:33 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to an East Sunny Sands residence to aid a man with heart issues. 3:42 p.m. A caller reported that a large boat was listing in the Columbia River. 5:13 p.m. The Cathlamet fire department and ambulance responded to an Oak Point residence for a chimney fire that had spread to the rest of the structure.
March 14--12:23 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Beaver Creek Estates Lane residence to aid a 77-year-old man having a stroke. 4:24 p.m. A caller reported a Naselle/Grays River District school bus had slid off the road after the edge of the roadway gave way underneath the vehicle. The vehicle traveled through a fence, slid down an embankment and came to rest facing southbound in a field. There were no children in the bus at the time of the collision.
March 15--8:38 a.m. A caller reported six inches of water over the roadway at milepost 2 on Eden Valley Road. Flooding in the Grays River area led to the closures of Covered Bridge Road, Loop Road and SR 4 at Grays River. 12:08 p.m. A Shannon Road resident reported a power line had come loose from its post. The PUD was notified. 9:22 p.m. A Division Street resident reported a Toyota Tacoma with expired plates was parked outside Strong Park. She also stated that she believed the driver of the truck was stalking her.
March 16--1:23 a.m. A West Sunny Sands resident reported chasing a person he suspect who had vandalized his vehicle the previous night. A deputy was advised. 10:20 a.m. A caller reported the theft of $80 from a cash box from a Main Street address. A deputy investigated. 2:17 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid an East Valley Road resident who was disoriented and having pains in his arm. 7:27 p.m. A deputy stopped a vehicle at milepost 44 on SR 4 and made an arrest. 11:57 p.m. A Messinger Hill Drive resident reported neighbors in the downstairs apartment were yelling.
March 17--9:46 a.m. A caller reported rocks in the road at Stella. State Patrol was advised.
March 18--12:23 a.m. A West SR 4 resident reported hearing shots fired in a suspected poaching. A deputy investigated and was unable to locate the shooter. 3 p.m. A caller from the state Department of Transportation shop reported burn marks in grass on the property. A deputy investigated and found no permanent damage had been done. 3:08 p.m. A deputy stopped a vehicle at milepost 33 on SR 4 and took two people into custody. 4:09 p.m. A Salmon Creek Road resident reported his girlfriend was intoxicated and had spray painted graffiti on his garage door before heading towards Naselle.
