Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
Just got an update from Derek Heitsch on his springtime news. He now has 23 new calves and two sets of twins. All are doing well. More to come though. This is a beautiful day for new little ones, as opposed to the miserable day yesterday and the snow and hail overnight.
News from Naselle:
Naselle High School will host a fantastic variety show on March 9 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. for the enjoyment of the entire community. There will be something for everyone. Whether you prefer comedy, singing, skits, acting, dancing, the marimba band or whatever—it’s all there. What a wonderful way to end the week with your family and help fund two awesome groups as well. The evening is well worth the $5 donation they are requesting. The proceeds from the variety show will help fund a trip for the marimba band.
Come early (5 p.m. to 6 p.m.) and have dinner as well. The baked potato feed (with all the trimmings—a meal in itself) proceeds will go toward the Washington D.C. trip. Our kids work really hard, along with their parents and teachers, to get the necessary funding for their outside activities and our community always seems to come through to help them out, while enjoying the fun things that are offered. It’s a great place to live.
The Naselle-Grays River Valley Booster Club will meet on March 13 at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed with a presentation by poet Ken Nesbett at 6:30 p.m.
Other news from the Westend:
Once again, Wahkiakum West has presented the Community Computer Center with a very generous donation that will be used to cover the cost of internet service and telephone to the center. I want to publicly as well as personally thank both Carlton Appelo and Steven Appelo for your support since the computer center was first established.
The Community Computer Center is open to the public on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. It has recently been combined with the Grays River Valley Library at Johnson Park and has expanded its hours to those of the library. Come on in and check us out, it’s all free. DSL service and library cards are free as well to the users.
Without the tremendous support of donors such as Wahkiakum West, other private donations, and the users, we wouldn’t be able to serve the community as well as we do. With four Gates computers and a Mac mini, there is seldom any waiting for the use of a computer. If you have questions about the center please call 465-2310.
The Grays River Habitat Enhancement District will hold its regular monthly meeting on March 14 in the Grays River Grange Hall at 6 p.m. These meetings are open to the public and residents are encouraged to attend. Find out what is happening on your river. Refreshments will be served.
For the people who signed up to become Red Cross volunteers at the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park, this is a reminder to attend the next orientation training on March 16 at noon. The orientation will last approximately two hours. If you can’t make it, the orientation material will be available online. The meeting is open to anyone who may wish to become a volunteer in the event of a disaster situation. For more information, contact Cindy Lahti.
The Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch that meets at Rosburg Hall will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on March 14 with a traditional meal of corned beef and cabbage, carrots and spuds, bread and dessert. You might even catch a glimpse of a leprechaun or two. On March 21 this group will enjoy meat loaf, whipped potatoes, veggies, hot rolls and dessert. Thank you, Pat Potter and your volunteers for all you do for others.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays senior lunches are also served at the above location and are sponsored by CAP.
