Pirates stop Mules 54-49 at state

The Adna Pirates defeated the Wahkiakum Mules 54-49 in the opening round of the Class 2B boys basketball tournament Thursday in Spokane.

The Mules led 24-23 halftime, and the Pirates outscored them 16-9 in the third quarter. The Mules had a 16-15 scoring edge in the fourth quarter.

Wyatt Parker led the Mule scoring with 19 points. John Chambers scored 11, Peter Weiler nine, Lars Blix five, Eli McElroy two, Brett Chaputt two and Yannik Kreutter one. Parker had eight rebounds; McElroy and Chaputt each had five, Blix four and Weiler two.

The Mules drop into the consolation round; they'll play of Lake Roosevelt at 2 p.m. on Friday. The loser is out; the winner plays the winner of the La Conner/Dayton game at 9:30 a.m. Saturday for fourth and sixth places.
